Setup an in-bound DNAT for port 80 from the internet to go to port 8080 on your NAS using this howto: Set your NAS to use the outbound traffic through the EdgeRouter as its default gateway (this is important) Get one of these: for about $60 and set it up to do SNAT to provide outbound internet using this howto: Get a static block of IP addresses from your internet provider (usually about $20/month) The things you might have to do to get your personal network setup to NAT port 80 on the internet into port 8008 on your NAS are out of the scope of these instructions but here are some hints: And it is nice to have connectivity from everywhere in the world to your book library. But this is not particularly useful to me- I want the content on my Kindle. At this point you can hit the NAS from your LAN on port 8008 with a web browser ( and log in and read your books. (ignore the message about needing to restart the server)

Change the port to listen on to 8008 (8080 is usually already taken in QNAP NASes) Check "require username and password" and also check "start automatically" Now, here is the useful part of this- in the Calibre Interface on your HD Station, go to Preferences->Sharing-> Sharing over the net. It's a pain, but not bad if you don't boot your NAS often. If the directory ever changes name you have to do this step again. This will write the temp files into that location instead of to /tmp (which on my NAS only has 64MB of space) until the next time you have to reboot your NAS- then the name will probably change. Then symlink it's name to the temp directory you made "rm -rf calibre_4.2.0_tmp_3Ama4t ln -s /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/data/temp/calibre/ calibre_4.2.0_tmp_3Ama4t". it will look something like "calibre_4.2.0_tmp_3Ama4t". then find your Calibre temporary directory. Make sure you know the real path within the NAS to this directory. Pick a share on your NAS with LOTS of space and make a directory called "temp" in it. Every book you view through the calibre web server gets permanently left in a temp directory on your NAS that will fill up its "/" filesystem almost immediately and crash your NAS. This issue is still present in the new 4.2.0 qpkg. You will deeply regret it if you do not fix this. Next we have to fix the temp directory problem. It will at one point ask you what device you are using- I've found that what you select here isn't highly critical, but I'm setting this up particularly for use with a kindle fire, and if you are also doing this, be sure you pick kindle as it will enable integration with your kindle email. Follow through whatever else it asks you to do as part of setup, and you should be up and running. (If you don't have one, build one before you do any of this.) You have to use the path internal to the NAS (for example, mine is in a share called /Multimedia/calibre, but the actual path it is looking for here is the internal path to that same directory: /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/calibre

It will ask you where your Calibre library is located- presumably you already have one somewhere on your NAS. First go into Config (the gear) -> App -> Calibre and set it to auto run with admin permissions There should be a new icon called Calibre. Now switch over to your HD Station console.

Select the Calibre qpkg you downloaded- it should install with no problems. Download this package (Calibre), and in your QNAP web interface (not the HD Station) go to Control Panel -> Applications -> HybridDesk Station -> Install Manually -> Browse These are QNAPs with GUI graphics built into the hardware- an HDMI port, mouse, keyboard, sound, etc. You must have a QNAP that has HybridDesk Station on it (Also called HD Station) to use this package. This is for informational purposes only and I take no responsibility if you destroy your NAS or anything else. Here are some notes I jotted down for you.
